Acumatica vs NetSuite

Acumatica and NetSuite are both cloud ERPs for growing and mid-sized companies, and neither publishes a price. Acumatica prices by the applications and resources a customer uses, with unlimited users, and is owned by Vista Equity Partners; NetSuite is Oracle's cloud ERP, and NetSuite Next is its AI-focused generation. Both document an assistant that answers questions about ERP data, invoice reading that drafts bills for review, and MCP connections for outside AI tools. This page compares what each documents about that AI, its data terms and its security reports. Read the NetSuite AI guide and Acumatica pricing too.

What each does

Acumatica

Bookkeeping

Acumatica is a cloud ERP for small and mid-market companies, with industry editions for construction, manufacturing, distribution and other sectors, priced by the applications and resources a customer uses rather than per user. Its AI flags anomalies, answers plain-language questions about ERP data, reads vendor invoices into bills for review, and lets customers build agents that take defined actions on records. Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini can connect through MCP. Vista Equity Partners acquired Acumatica in 2025.

What the AI does

  • AI Anomaly Detection monitors financial and operational data for unusual patterns across vendors, items and customers and ranks exceptions by severity
  • AI Assistant answers plain-language questions about ERP data, knows the screen or record a user has open, and returns tables, charts, pivot tables or dashboard widgets within the user's existing permissions
  • AP document recognition reads vendor invoices and creates bills for review and approval; expense receipt recognition, experimental in the 2026 R2 release, captures receipt data from the mobile app
  • AI Automation and agents read records, apply instructions and write results back, such as updating sales order lines, tagging attachments and summarizing support cases, using the AI model provider the customer connects
  • MCP connection (2026 R2) lets Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and other MCP-compatible tools read approved ERP data under existing role-based permissions and field-level masking

NetSuite Next

Close & reconciliation

NetSuite Next is Oracle NetSuite's AI-focused generation of its cloud ERP. It adds Ask Oracle, a natural-language assistant, agents and AI embedded in accounting, close, analytics and other modules; in October 2026 Oracle added SuiteSkills, prebuilt business skills usable through Ask Oracle or outside AI models, and AI workspaces including one for the close. Oracle says the AI operates within each user's existing NetSuite roles and permissions.

What the AI does

  • Ask Oracle: natural-language assistant that searches, analyzes and takes actions in NetSuite and cites its data sources
  • SuiteSkills: more than 45 prebuilt skills for tasks such as financial analysis and close, billing and cash flow, usable through Ask Oracle or connected AI models (announced October 2026)
  • AI Workspaces, including an Autonomous Close workspace that brings agents, people and approvals together for the month-end close
  • Bill Capture: extracts vendor bill data from invoices for AP staff to review (add-on module, uses OCI Document Understanding)
  • AI Connector Service (Model Context Protocol) for connecting external AI models to NetSuite data under role-based permissions

Choosing between Acumatica and NetSuite Next

Start with what you already run. If one documents an integration with your ledger and the other doesn’t, that usually settles it. Then compare the data-safety fields: ask whichever vendor shows unconfirmed for SOC 2 or training on customer data to put its answer in writing. Pricing is the last step, because published starting prices rarely match the plan a growing team ends up on.
