QuickBooks AI: from Intuit Assist to Intuit Intelligence

Intuit has renamed its QuickBooks AI twice in three years. Underneath the names is a chat assistant plus a set of task agents for bookkeeping, payments, sales tax and reporting, and which ones you get depends on your QuickBooks Online plan.

What Intuit calls it now

If you searched for Intuit Assist, you are looking for the right product under an older name. The timeline, from Intuit's own announcements:

  • September 2023: Intuit announced Intuit Assist, a generative AI assistant across TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks and Mailchimp. QuickBooks access began in beta.
  • July 2025: Intuit introduced a "virtual team of AI agents" for US QuickBooks Online: Payments, Accounting, Finance and Customer agents, with Payroll and Project Management to follow.
  • Fall 2025: Intuit introduced Intuit Intelligence as the layer that gives access to those agents, and added a Sales Tax agent.
  • Today: QuickBooks pages use Intuit AI as the umbrella term, with agents named Accounting AI, Payments AI, Payroll AI, Customer AI, Sales Tax AI, Finance AI, Project Management AI and Business Tax AI. Intuit Assist no longer appears on current QuickBooks pricing or AI pages.

What Intuit does with your data

Intuit's Global Privacy Statement lists training its own AI and machine-learning models among the ways it uses personal information, and we found no AI-specific opt-out. A separate Intuit post says its contracts bar partners such as OpenAI and Anthropic from training their models on Intuit customer data. So the distinction is between Intuit's models, which can learn from customer data under the privacy statement, and third-party models, which Intuit says cannot.

On SOC 2, the only statement we found was a staff reply on Intuit's community forum pointing to a QuickBooks Online SOC 2 Type II report in Intuit's login-gated compliance portal. A forum reply isn't a policy document, so the listing marks SOC 2 unconfirmed. If your firm needs the report, request it through Intuit's compliance portal.

How much it does on its own

Intuit says its chat carries out an action only after the user confirms it, and that drafted messages, reminders and bills can be reviewed and edited. Some bookkeeping automation, such as auto-categorization, runs on its own, labels what it did, and sends exceptions to a person. For accountants reviewing a client file, that means checking the categorization rules and the exception queue, not only the chat history.

QuickBooks AI or a standalone tool?

QuickBooks AI has one large advantage: it is already inside the ledger, with no integration to set up. Standalone tools built on QuickBooks Online tend to go deeper on one job, such as bank-feed categorization across many client files, close management, or document capture, and several publish clearer statements about training on customer data. If you run QuickBooks Online, filter the directory by Works with QuickBooks Online to compare.
