Xero AI: what JAX does, and what it does with your data

JAX, short for Just Ask Xero, is the AI assistant built into Xero's accounting software. It answers questions about your own books, researches outside topics and handles small admin tasks, and Xero says the chat carries no extra charge.

What JAX does

JAX opens from a chat panel in Xero's navigation. Xero describes four kinds of work: answering questions about the organization's own Xero data with charts and tables, researching outside topics such as benchmarks, tax information and loan rates, carrying out small tasks such as turning a quote into an invoice, and answering how-to questions from Xero's help content.

Xero's September 2025 release called JAX an "AI financial superagent" and described automated reconciliation and a control system called JAX Assure, some in the future tense. The current JAX page doesn't use that language or the earlier beta label, so treat announced capabilities as announced until they appear in your file.

What Xero says about your data

Xero's JAX page says the language models behind JAX chat process the data users enter, but that the data is not retained or used to train those models. Xero's general privacy notice allows it to use data, including with AI and machine learning, to provide and improve its services, without addressing model training specifically. The listing records the JAX-specific statement.

Xero states that it produces SOC 2 reports from independent audits and offers its latest SOC 2 Type II report on request.

How much it does on its own

Xero says JAX acts only when a user asks it something, follows the user's existing Xero permissions, and is built so users can review its output. For accountants, the permissions point matters: a client user with limited access gets answers limited to what that role can see.
